Summary

Researchers are testing an experimental daily pill called SUN-627 in adults aged 18 to 70 with non-active progressive multiple sclerosis, a form of MS where disability steadily worsens without relapses. The phase 2a trial aims to see whether the drug is safe and tolerable, how the body processes it, and whether it affects markers of brain inflammation. About 20 participants will receive either SUN-627 or a placebo for comparison.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
SUN-627, an experimental once-daily oral tablet
What this could lead to
If SUN-627 proves safe and reaches the brain, it could offer a new oral option for progressive MS, a form of the disease with few treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial of 20 people, so it may not show a clear benefit or may reveal side effects. Results in this group may not apply to everyone with progressive MS.
