Simple suction trick may ease kidney stone surgery recovery

NCT ID NCT07535281

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a simple change during kidney stone surgery: actively suctioning the kidney to collapse it at the end of the procedure, instead of letting it drain naturally. Researchers want to see if this reduces pain and infection right after surgery. About 90 adults with kidney stones will be randomly assigned to either the suction method or standard care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Suction-induced collapse of the renal collecting system (procedure)

What this could lead to

If it works, this simple change could reduce pain and infection after kidney stone surgery, helping patients recover faster.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 90 participants. The benefit may be small or not apply to all patients. There is no evidence yet that it changes long-term outcomes.
