Knee pain breakthrough? new procedure may delay or avoid joint replacement

NCT ID NCT03112200

First seen May 17, 2026 ยท Last updated May 17, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a procedure called Subchondroplasty (filling bone defects with a special material) plus standard knee arthroscopy works better than arthroscopy alone for people with knee pain caused by bone marrow lesions. About 131 adults aged 30-75 with knee osteoarthritis took part. The goal was to see if the combined treatment reduces pain and the need for further knee surgeries.
