Can a clot-busting procedure help stroke patients with existing disabilities?

Summary
This study looks at whether a procedure called endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) can help people who have a stroke but already had a moderate-to-severe disability before the stroke. About 1,060 adults with a large blood vessel blockage in the brain will be randomly assigned to get EVT plus standard care or just standard care. The goal is to see if EVT improves recovery or reduces death compared to medical management alone.
