Power up your knees: new exercise program aims to beat chronic kneecap pain
NCT ID NCT05403944
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a 6-week strength training program that includes power exercises (STRIPE) works better than standard rehab for people with long-term kneecap pain. 88 adults aged 18-40 with pain lasting over 3 months will do supervised telehealth sessions three times a week. Researchers will measure changes in pain, knee function, and how often pain comes back.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Strength training rehabilitation incorporating power exercises (STRIPE) compared to standard of care rehabilitation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a more effective exercise program for people with kneecap pain, reducing pain and improving daily function.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 88 participants. The new program may not prove better than standard care, and results may not apply to everyone with knee pain.
