Gum graft showdown: new strip method may boost implant healing
NCT ID NCT06261268
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two surgical ways to increase the amount of firm gum tissue around dental implants. One method uses a strip of the patient's own gum plus a collagen patch, while the other uses a larger piece of the patient's gum. The trial will measure how much gum tissue grows and how well the area heals, using a special camera to see blood flow. 48 adults with thin gums around lower jaw implants will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Strip graft with xenogeneic collagen matrix (Mucograft) or free gingival graft
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could point toward a better surgical method to improve gum health around dental implants, reducing complications and improving patient comfort.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 48 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Surgical procedures always carry risks like infection or poor healing.
