Scientists probe Mother's stress as hidden cause of early birth

NCT ID NCT05229666

Summary

This study aims to understand how a mother's stress and life experiences might affect tiny energy centers in her cells (mitochondria) and inflammation, potentially increasing the risk of preterm birth. Researchers will follow 180 pregnant women to see if different stress profiles, especially those linked to racial disparities, are connected to changes in these biological systems and earlier delivery dates. The goal is to gather knowledge that could lead to future ways to predict or prevent preterm birth.
