Can counting steps help stroke recovery? small study aims to find out.

NCT ID NCT07649135

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a 6-week program that combines a pedometer with phone or video coaching is practical for people who had a stroke at least 6 months ago. 24 participants will track their steps and set goals with an occupational therapist. The main goal is to see if people stick with the program, not to measure health improvements.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Physical Activity Chats after Stroke (PA-ChatS) - a behavioral program using a pedometer and phone/video coaching sessions

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that a simple step-counting program is practical for stroke survivors, paving the way for larger studies on improving physical activity after stroke.

What could go wrong

This is a very small feasibility study (24 people) with no control group, so it cannot prove the program improves health. Results may not apply to all stroke survivors.
