Child's own cells tested to fix common birth defect, reduce surgery complications

NCT ID NCT07495176

Summary

This study tested whether adding tiny particles from a child's own stem cells could help rebuild missing tissue during surgery for a common birth defect called hypospadias. The goal was to see if this new approach could lower the high rate of complications like fistulas and strictures that often occur after traditional surgery. Researchers compared outcomes in 82 boys who received the stem cell particles during their staged repair surgery against those who had standard surgery alone.
