Can zapping the spine fix blood pressure after paralysis?
NCT ID NCT06841198
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how blood pressure changes in the first year after a spinal cord injury and whether a device that stimulates the spine through the skin can help. Five people with recent injuries will be followed for a year, testing the stimulation during sessions to see if it raises blood pressure. The goal is to understand if early stimulation is safe and effective for managing low blood pressure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
transcutaneous spinal stimulation device (Neostim-5)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a non-invasive way to manage blood pressure problems after spinal cord injury.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-phase study with only 5 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The stimulation may not consistently raise blood pressure or prevent dizziness.
