Better scans could help measure spine fusion in ankylosing spondylitis

NCT ID NCT00085995

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether CT scans are better than regular X-rays for measuring how the spine stiffens and fuses in people with ankylosing spondylitis. Researchers will follow 63 adults over 4 years, using scans, blood tests, and flexibility measurements. The goal is to find a more precise way to track disease progression, which could help test future treatments.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could lead to better ways to measure spinal fusion, helping doctors evaluate new treatments for ankylosing spondylitis more accurately.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only tests imaging methods, so it won't directly improve symptoms or slow disease progression.
