Double fusion surgery shows promise for slipped vertebrae
NCT ID NCT03585439
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at 87 adults who had a two-step spinal fusion surgery for isthmic spondylolisthesis, a condition where a vertebra slips forward. The surgery combines an anterior approach (through the abdomen) with a posterior approach (through the back) to stabilize the spine. The goal was to check how well the bones fused and whether the procedure safely restored spinal alignment and nerve space.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
surgical procedure (anterior lumbar interbody fusion plus posterolateral fusion)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could confirm that a two-step spinal fusion is a safe and effective way to treat isthmic spondylolisthesis and improve patient outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed observational study with no control group, so results may not apply to all patients. Surgery carries risks like infection, nerve damage, or incomplete fusion.
