Could a spinal implant ease crippling leg pain for millions with diabetes?

Summary

This study tests whether a spinal cord stimulator—a device that sends mild electrical pulses to the spine—can reduce severe leg pain and improve blood flow in people with both painful diabetic neuropathy and peripheral artery disease. Fifteen adults who already have a permanent stimulator will receive two weeks of active stimulation and two weeks of sham (inactive) treatment, in random order. Researchers will measure pain levels, skin oxygen, blood flow, and quality of life to see if the device works better than placebo.
