Can body awareness training ease jaw pain from teeth clenching?
NCT ID NCT07336082
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two different physiotherapy treatments for awake bruxism—daytime teeth clenching or jaw tension that causes pain. One approach focuses on improving body awareness and sensory perception of the face and jaw, while the other uses jaw mobility and posture exercises. Twenty adults with jaw pain will be randomly assigned to one of the treatments or a wait-list group, and their pain levels will be tracked over four weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
somatosensory awareness-based training and jaw and posture exercise therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward better physiotherapy approaches for reducing jaw pain and improving quality of life in people with awake bruxism.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. There is also a chance that neither treatment works better than no treatment.
