Face shape may predict botox success for teeth grinders
NCT ID NCT07673471
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether the shape of a person's face influences how Botox injections change bite force in people who grind their teeth (bruxism). Participants with different facial structures receive Botox into the jaw muscle, and bite force is measured before and after treatment. The goal is to see if facial morphology affects the early changes in bite balance, which could help tailor future treatments.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Botulinum toxin type A (Botox)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help personalize Botox treatment for teeth grinding based on a person's facial structure.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early study with only 34 participants. Results may not apply to everyone, and Botox carries risks like temporary muscle weakness or injection site reactions.
