First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows 100 teens aged 13-18 who are already enrolled in a depression registry. For 30 days, they report their feelings and social media use twice daily via a phone app, then complete monthly surveys for 6 months. The goal is to understand how social media relates to depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could reveal how social media impacts teen depression and suicide risk, guiding future prevention strategies.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study with only 100 participants, so findings may not apply to all teens. It does not test a treatment.
