Chatbot SMILEY aims to ease online stress for bullied teens

Summary

This pilot study tests a chatbot named SMILEY that teaches coping skills and safe social media practices to teens aged 12-18 who experience depression and online bullying. The goal is to see if using the chatbot reduces stress and improves safety online. About 75 marginalized youth (including Black, Hispanic, and LGBTQ+ teens) will use SMILEY at their own pace over 4 weeks.
