Can a phone app ease the emotional toll of chronic disease?

NCT ID NCT07099365

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Aug 07, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a smartphone app called Orbi, which uses cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help people with long-term physical conditions cope with depression and anxiety. 60 participants will either use the app plus usual charity support, or charity support alone, then switch after 12 weeks. The goal is to see if the app is practical and helpful, not yet to prove it works.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Orbi smartphone app (cognitive behavioural therapy)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a low-cost, accessible tool to help people with chronic illnesses cope with emotional distress.
What could go wrong
This is a small feasibility study (60 people) with no therapist support, so the app may not be effective or engaging enough for many users.
