Smart toothbrush may beat dentist visit for gum health
NCT ID NCT07549347
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether using a smart electric toothbrush with an app and flossing can control gum inflammation as well as getting a professional dental cleaning. 92 adults with mild gum disease will be split into two groups: one uses the smart toothbrush alone, the other gets a professional cleaning plus the toothbrush. The goal is to see if the toothbrush alone is enough to keep gums healthy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
intelligent electric toothbrush with app guidance and dental floss
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that a high-tech toothbrush routine is enough to control gum inflammation, reducing the need for frequent professional cleanings.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 92 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The smart toothbrush might not be as effective as professional cleaning for all cases.
