Can a sleep drug improve rest for ICU patients?

NCT ID NCT06824077

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether a medication called dexmedetomidine can help patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) get more restful sleep. Good sleep is important for recovery, but ICU patients often sleep poorly. About 50 adults who are awake and stable will receive either the drug or a placebo for two nights. The goal is to see if the drug improves sleep quality and helps patients feel more alert the next day.
