Sleep therapy may boost quit rates for tobacco and cannabis users

NCT ID NCT07202351

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests whether screening and treating sleep disorders during tobacco or cannabis cessation therapy helps people stay abstinent longer. 80 participants will either get usual care or extra sleep-focused care. The study follows them for 6 months to see if addressing sleep issues reduces relapse.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

screening and management of sleep disorders (cognitive behavioural therapy, image rehearsal therapy)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple way to improve quit rates for tobacco or cannabis by addressing sleep problems during withdrawal.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study with only 80 people, so results may not apply widely. The intervention adds extra steps, and sleep treatment may not directly improve abstinence.
