NCT ID NCT03370406

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early-stage trial tests injecting a chemotherapy drug (5FU) directly into skin cancers on the lower legs, with or without a vitamin D-based cream (calcipotriene). The goal is to see if the treatment is safe and can shrink tumors. About 30 adults with small squamous cell carcinomas on their lower legs will participate.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
5-fluorouracil (5FU) injection and calcipotriene cream
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a less invasive treatment option for skin cancer on the lower legs, potentially avoiding surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 30 people, so it is mainly checking safety. It may not work well or could cause local skin reactions.
