Could a Patient's own blood help build better jawbone for dental implants?
NCT ID NCT07677007
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether adding a concentrate made from a patient's own blood (L-PRF) to a standard bone graft improves bone growth for dental implants in the upper jaw. The study includes 30 adults with low bone height in the back of the upper jaw who need implants. Half will receive the standard bone graft alone, and half will get the standard graft plus the L-PRF block. Researchers will measure bone gain and new bone formation after six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Deproteinized bovine bone mineral (xenograft) and leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) block
What this could lead to
If adding L-PRF to the bone graft works better, it could speed up healing and improve bone quality for people needing dental implants in the upper jaw.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The L-PRF combination might not show a clear benefit over the standard graft alone.
