Jawbone preservation may spare dental implant patients from sinus surgery
NCT ID NCT07526129
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks back at 130 patients who had upper back teeth removed. Some had their tooth socket filled with bone graft material to preserve the jawbone, while others healed naturally. Researchers will compare CT scans taken months later to see if the preserved group has more bone height, potentially avoiding the need for a sinus lift procedure before placing dental implants.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
alveolar ridge preservation using bone graft material
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help dentists decide when to use bone preservation techniques to avoid more complex sinus surgeries for dental implants.
What could go wrong
This is a retrospective study looking at old records, not a controlled experiment. Results may not apply to all patients, and the findings are observational, not a proven treatment.
