Tiny study hopes to unlock bone healing genes in dental grafts

NCT ID NCT06156488

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This completed study looked at how genes involved in bone regeneration behave when a common bone graft material is used alone or combined with hyaluronic acid and polynucleotides. Five people needing sinus lifts for dental implants participated. Researchers analyzed gene activity in the regenerated bone six months after grafting to see if the added substances changed the healing process.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

anorganic bovine bone graft with polynucleotides and hyaluronic acid

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help identify which genes are important for bone regeneration, potentially leading to better dental bone graft materials.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early study with only 5 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It looks at gene activity, not actual bone healing outcomes.
