Can one dental visit heal an infected tooth root as well as two?
NCT ID NCT07480226
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a single dental visit for regenerative root canal treatment works as well as the usual two-visit approach for mature teeth with chronic infection. Thirty-two adults received either a one-session or two-session procedure, and researchers tracked pain during the first week and healing at six months and one year. The goal is to simplify treatment without compromising recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Regenerative endodontic procedure (root canal cleaning, induced bleeding, and MTA barrier)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a single dental visit is as effective as two visits for treating tooth root infections, saving time and discomfort.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 32 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The procedure is complex and healing outcomes vary.
