Knee replacement patients try simulation training to ease surgery fears
NCT ID NCT07310303
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a simulation-based education session before knee replacement surgery could lower patients' fear of the operation and fear of moving afterward. 48 adults scheduled for knee replacement were randomly assigned to either the simulation training or standard verbal instructions. Researchers measured surgical fear, fear of movement, and pain after surgery using questionnaires.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Simulation-based preoperative education
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple, non-drug way to help patients feel less afraid and recover better after knee replacement surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with only 48 participants. The results may not apply to all patients or hospitals, and the education method may not reduce fear more than standard teaching.
