Cavity fighters: which fluoride gel wins for Kids' teeth?

NCT ID NCT07371117

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests three different fluoride treatments—silver diamine fluoride gel, a special fluoride varnish, and a standard fluoride gel—to see which one best stops early childhood cavities. Ninety healthy children with at least one active cavity will receive one of the treatments. The goal is to find a simple, effective way to halt tooth decay without drilling.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Silver diamine fluoride gel, sodium fluoride with CPP-ACP, and acidulated phosphate fluoride gel

What this could lead to

If one treatment works best, it could offer a simple, non-drilling way to stop cavities in young children.

What could go wrong

This is a small Phase 2 trial with only 90 children, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatments are already used, so no big breakthrough is expected.
