New study tests gentler surgery for brain fluid disorder in seniors
NCT ID NCT07447479
First seen Mar 07, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looks at two ways to treat idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH), a condition that causes walking problems and memory loss in older adults. It compares a newer surgery using a lumbar shunt under local anesthesia to the standard brain shunt surgery under general anesthesia. The goal is to see if the less invasive approach works just as well for improving walking speed and balance. About 196 people aged 60 and older will take part.
