Shorter antibiotic course may be just as effective for tough lung infections

NCT ID NCT03477292

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tested whether a 7-day course of antibiotics works as well as the standard 14-day course for ventilator-associated pneumonia caused by drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. 41 adults on ventilators took part. The goal was to see if shorter treatment could reduce side effects and antibiotic resistance without increasing the risk of the infection coming back.
