Shorter implants could simplify sinus lifts for tooth replacement
NCT ID NCT07271134
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether shorter dental implants (6.3mm) work as well as standard ones (9mm) for people with low bone height in the upper jaw who need a sinus lift. Thirty-six adults will be randomly assigned to receive one of three implant types. Researchers will track complications like swelling and pain, and measure bone loss around the implant over three years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Astra Tech Implant EV short implants (6.3mm and 8mm) and conventional implants (9mm)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, short implants could offer a less invasive option for people with low bone height, potentially avoiding more complex sinus lift surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 36 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. There are standard risks like implant failure, swelling, and pain.
