Gum graft showdown: collagen vs. palate tissue for better implants
NCT ID NCT07080177
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two ways to improve gum tissue around dental implants in adults with missing teeth. One method uses a collagen membrane from cows, the other uses a small piece of tissue from the roof of the mouth. The goal is to see which approach leads to healthier gums and better implant success. Twenty-four participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two procedures.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
xenogeneic collagen membrane (bovine origin) and free gingival graft (from the palate)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a collagen membrane works as well as a traditional gum graft, offering a less invasive option for dental implant patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 24 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Graft procedures carry risks like infection or shrinkage.
