Blood test may forecast kidney outcome in sepsis patients
NCT ID NCT07295392
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether levels of a protein called uromodulin in the blood can help predict how well kidneys recover in adults with sepsis-related acute kidney injury. Researchers will measure uromodulin at the start, after one week, and at hospital discharge in 30 patients. The goal is to see if this protein can forecast complete kidney recovery, length of ICU stay, or death within 30 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors predict which sepsis patients with kidney injury will recover fully versus develop chronic kidney disease.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study with only 30 participants. The findings may not apply to all patients or lead to any treatment changes.
