Sticker on the neck could replace scope for swallowing tests
NCT ID NCT07156357
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This Mayo Clinic study tests if a simple sticker (surface EMG) on the neck can measure how well people with Eosinophilic Esophagitis swallow food. Researchers will compare the sticker's readings to a standard scope exam. The study enrolls 30 adults — both healthy volunteers and EoE patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Surface electromyography (sEMG) patch
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a simpler, less invasive way to check swallowing in EoE patients.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study (30 people) just testing a measurement method, not a treatment. The patch may not be accurate enough to replace current tests.
