First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tested whether a selenium gel can help treat oral lichen planus, a chronic inflammatory condition causing painful mouth sores. Fifty adults with the condition used either selenium gel, a standard steroid cream, or an immunosuppressant cream. Researchers measured pain, disease severity, and antioxidant levels in saliva to see if selenium works as well as or better than current treatments.
