New drug targets genetic weakness in mesothelioma tumors

NCT ID NCT07602946

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests a drug called BMS-986504 in 30 people with relapsed mesothelioma whose tumors have a specific genetic marker (MTAP deficiency). The drug aims to shrink tumors by blocking a protein cancer cells need to grow. Researchers will measure how many patients have their disease controlled at 12 and 24 weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

BMS-986504 (a targeted drug that blocks a protein called PRMT5, aiming to stop cancer cell growth)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a new targeted treatment option for people with a specific genetic type of relapsed mesothelioma, potentially shrinking tumors and delaying disease progression.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase 2 trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug may not shrink tumors or could cause side effects. It is not a cure.
