Can an MRI predict diabetes complications?
NCT ID NCT05057403
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will use a special MRI scan to look at the health of multiple organs in 1,000 adults with type 2 diabetes who have not had heart problems. Researchers want to see if these scans can predict future heart attacks, strokes, or kidney disease over five years. The goal is to find better ways to catch complications early.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors identify type 2 diabetes patients at higher risk for heart or kidney disease earlier, leading to better prevention strategies.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not find strong links between MRI results and future health events, or the findings may not apply to all patients.
