Can we predict psychosis? global study seeks answers

NCT ID NCT05905003

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This observational study is collecting data from 2,617 young people (ages 12-30) at clinical high risk for psychosis, plus healthy controls, across 13 countries. Researchers will use clinical assessments, cognitive tests, and biomarkers to build algorithms that predict who will recover, who will develop psychosis, and who will have ongoing symptoms. The goal is to improve early detection and pave the way for future treatments.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to better prediction tools to identify which young people at high risk for psychosis will recover, worsen, or develop schizophrenia, enabling earlier and more targeted interventions.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test any therapy. The algorithms developed may not be accurate enough for widespread clinical use without further validation.
