Hope in action: peer support may curb suicide risk in youth facing psychosis
NCT ID NCT07756567
First seen Aug 10, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests a new group program designed for young people at clinical high risk for psychosis who also have suicidal thoughts or behaviors. The program, led by a clinician and a peer with lived experience, focuses on building hope, setting recovery goals, and strengthening social connections. Caregivers join a session to learn how to support their young person. Researchers will compare the program plus standard care to standard care alone to see if it improves personal recovery and helps participants remember and use suicide prevention strategies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A recovery-oriented suicide prevention group program led by a clinician and a peer specialist with lived experience, added to standard care.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this program could offer a new way to reduce suicide risk and support personal recovery in young people at high risk for psychosis.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is still in development and testing, so the program may not prove more effective than standard care alone. Participation requires a caregiver, which may limit who can join.
