Five-Dose radiation for prostate cancer: does it work and how do patients feel?
NCT ID NCT03889119
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study follows 100 men with localized prostate cancer who received a condensed form of radiation called SBRT, which delivers high-dose radiation in just 5 treatments instead of the usual 42-45. Researchers are tracking how well the treatment controls cancer over time and how it affects patients' quality of life, including side effects. The goal is to see if this shorter approach is both effective and tolerable.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) using the Elekta Versa or Agility System
What this could lead to
If successful, this could confirm that a shorter, more intense course of radiation is as effective as traditional longer treatment for prostate cancer, with fewer trips to the hospital.
What could go wrong
This is an observational follow-up study, not a randomized trial, so results may not prove SBRT is better than standard radiation. Side effects like urinary or bowel issues are still possible.
