First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether rupatadine, an allergy medicine, can help control inflammation in people with mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis. About 60 adults will take rupatadine or a standard treatment (mesalamine) for several weeks. The goal is to see if rupatadine reduces symptoms like diarrhea and rectal bleeding.

rupatadine

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new oral treatment option for mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis, helping control inflammation and symptoms.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 people. It may not show enough benefit or could have side effects. Success is far from guaranteed.
