New study to uncover hidden link between breathing and heart failure after surgery
NCT ID NCT07619274
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will observe 220 adults who have had cardiac surgery to see how respiratory acidosis (too much acid in the blood from breathing problems) affects the right side of the heart. Researchers will measure heart function and track ICU stay, breathing tube time, and medication needs. The goal is to better understand why right heart failure happens after surgery and how to prevent it.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors better manage breathing and heart function in ICU patients after heart surgery, potentially reducing complications.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test a new therapy. Results may not apply to all patients or lead to immediate changes in care.
