Beat and zap: new combo therapy aims to improve gait in kids with hemiparesis

NCT ID NCT07331480

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested a combination of rhythmic auditory stimulation (like music or beats) and functional electrical stimulation (mild electrical pulses to muscles) to improve walking in 60 children aged 6 to 10 with hemiparesis. The goal was to see if this approach could help them take longer steps and move more smoothly. The study is already completed, and results may show whether this non-drug therapy can ease walking difficulties.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

rhythmic auditory stimulation and functional electrical stimulation

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, non-drug way to improve walking in children with hemiparesis.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with no phase, so results may not apply to all children. The intervention is not a cure and only aims to ease walking difficulties.
