New PET tracer aims to spot prostate cancer more clearly

NCT ID NCT03995888

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-phase trial tested a new radioactive imaging agent called rhPSMA-7.3 (18F) in 24 people: some healthy volunteers and some with prostate cancer. The goal was to check safety and see how the agent spreads in the body and how well it lights up cancer on PET scans. The study is complete, but results are not yet reported.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

rhPSMA-7.3 (18F) injection

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a more accurate PET scan to detect prostate cancer, helping doctors see where the cancer is in the body.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase 1 study with only 24 people, so it is too small to prove the scan works better than current methods. The main goal is safety, not yet effectiveness.
