Tooth decay showdown: which treatment wins for white spots?

NCT ID NCT07544849

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested two ways to treat early white spot lesions on teeth in 30 teenagers aged 12 to 18. Each participant received both a resin infiltration and a microabrasion treatment on different teeth to see which worked better. The goal was to improve the appearance and stop the spots from getting worse, with results checked right after and at 6 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Resin infiltration (Icon) and microabrasion (Opalustre)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that one of these minimally invasive treatments is more effective at improving the look of early tooth decay spots in teenagers.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatments only address appearance and early lesions, not advanced decay.
