Nordic study aims to settle debate on best Clot-Busting approach for lung embolism
NCT ID NCT07003646
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is tracking 220 adults across Nordic countries who receive either clot-dissolving drugs or a catheter-based procedure for a severe pulmonary embolism. Researchers are comparing how often each treatment leads to serious bleeding or death within 30 days. The goal is to provide real-world evidence on which approach is safer and more effective.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Alteplase
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could clarify which reperfusion method is safer and more effective for high-risk pulmonary embolism, guiding future treatment guidelines.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a randomized trial, so results may be influenced by patient selection and cannot prove cause and effect. The small size (220 participants) limits generalizability.
