New hope for dialysis patients: Non-Surgical kidney shrinkage could clear path to transplant

NCT ID NCT07535385

First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026

Summary

This study looks at a non-surgical procedure called renal embolization to shrink enlarged kidneys in people with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) who are on dialysis. The goal is to reduce kidney size so that patients can become eligible for a kidney transplant, avoiding the risks of surgical removal. Thirty adults with kidney volumes between 2000 and 5000 mL will be treated, and their kidney shrinkage will be tracked with MRI over 12 months.
