Lung transplant patients may skip some clinic visits with new app

NCT ID NCT05916495

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether remote monitoring using an app and a home lung function device could safely replace some routine hospital check-ups for lung transplant patients. 76 patients were split into two groups: one received standard in-person care, the other used the app and home tests. The goal was to see if remote care could reduce the number of clinic visits without compromising safety.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

remote monitoring via app and home spirometry

What this could lead to

If successful, this could allow some lung transplant patients to have fewer hospital visits while still catching complications early.

What could go wrong

This was a small, completed study with 76 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. Remote monitoring might miss some problems that in-person checks would catch.
