Green tea extract tested as a frailty fighter for older cancer survivors

NCT ID NCT04553666

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tested whether taking a green tea extract (EGCG) plus vitamin C daily for 12 weeks is safe and feasible for older cancer survivors who are frail or pre-frail. The study enrolled 24 people aged 65 and older who had completed cancer treatment. The main goal was to see if participants would stick with the supplement and if it caused any side effects.

Active substance

Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate (EGCG) plus Vitamin C

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple supplement to help older cancer survivors feel stronger and less frail.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 24 participants, so results may not apply widely. It tests feasibility, not effectiveness, and supplements can have side effects.
