New monitoring method may keep seniors breathing easier after surgery
NCT ID NCT07652385
First seen Jun 17, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether adding a special carbon dioxide monitor through the nose can reduce dangerous drops in oxygen levels in elderly patients (ages 65-80) waking up from anesthesia after laparoscopic abdominal surgery. About 324 participants will be randomly assigned to standard care or standard care plus this extra monitoring. The goal is to see if the extra monitor helps prevent low oxygen episodes and improves safety during recovery.
